Robert Bunsen



We celebrate today the 200th birthday of the German chemist and phisician, Robert Bunsen, but he's more famous for the laboratory gas burner invented with Michael Faraday.

The result, known as a Bunsen burner, is one of the most commonly recognized lab tools to this day: this object is on display in the Chemistry laboratory set up of the Educational Silk Museum.

Robert Wilhelm Bunsen, was born  in Göttingen, Germany in 1811 and died in 1899.

He did groundbreaking work in organic chemistry and spectrometry, was an extraordinary experimentalist and popular university teacher.
