LA PASSAMANERIA. STORIA DI TESSUTI E TECNOLOGIE PRODUTTIVE COMASCHE DEGLI ANNI 1920-1940

After twenty years from its opening, the Educational Silk Museum still carries on the idea of being a point of reference in the spread of the silk culture and the relative activities, which are the drive of the city of Como.

Since its foundation in 1990, the Silk Museum has collected, preserved and displayed the historic memory of one of the most important industries in Como and its surrounding area.

The outcome is evident: preserved documents, working machinery, images and hand-down knowledge.

On the occasion of its twentieth anniversary, which is going to be celebrated on 4th October, the Museum offers the opportunity to know more about the textile world, thanks to an exhibition displaying new documents, characters and images resurfacing from the Museum archives.

Particularly, the donation - and the subsequent restoration work made possible thanks to the contribution of Classe del '27 - of the sign of the historical shop “Passamaneria F. Rho”, given to the Museum by the Rho family, suggested the idea of organising an exhibition revolving around the topic of “trimmings”.

On display, a number of items and documents from “Passamaneria F. Rho” and from two factories making and restoring valuable fabrics and trimmings: “Antica Fabbrica Passamanerie Massia Vittorio” (Turin) and “Figli di Carlo Monti” (Milan).
