Open all August from Tuesday to Friday, 09.00-12.00 am 03.00-06.00 pm, the Museum receives a huge numbers of visitors from Europe, Italy and the rest of the world.

THE SILK MUSEUM REOPENS ON 27TH JULY

The Educational Silk Museum reopens to its visitors from Tuesday 27th July, after the closing period due to the work in progress enlarging the Museum seat.

THE MUSEUM RE-OPENING POSTPONED UNTIL 27TH JULY

The Museum re-opening is postponed until Tuesday 27th July because of work in progress in the Museum seat. Once such work has finished, the dimensions of the Museum are going to double and, as a consequence, the permanent exhibition is going to be improved and enriched with new machines and exhibits which are now stored in the Museum warehouses.

MEETING OF THE FASHION DEPARTMENT OF CONFARTIGIANATO IMPRESE COMO

On Tuesday 25th May 2010 at 8.30 p.m. the Board of Directors of  the Fahion Department of Confartigianato Imprese Como met at the Educational Silk Museum (Via Castelnuovo 9, Como) in order to discuss the topics on their agenda.

Before starting their meeting, they visited the Museum and admired its original working machines covering the whole silk manufacturing process.

THE PUBLIC WORKS COMMISSION OF THE PROVINCE OF COMO VISITING THE BUILDING YARD

On Thursday May 20th, in the afternoon, the Province Councillor Mr Pietro Cinquesanti, together with Engineer Bruno Tarantola and the members of the whole Commission, visited the building yard relative to the enlargement of the Museum surface.

Particularly, the Commission - which was composed of its President Roberto Cigardi, the Vice President Maria Rita Livio, the Advisors Cornelia Borsoi, Dario Di Lorenzo, Serafino Grassi, Enrico Manzoni, Giordano Minotti e Luigi Pecorelli, - was accompanied in the building yard by Architect Rosalba Giani and Engineer Giuseppe Auguadro.

SERIES OF CONFERENCES

ISAL - Istituto per la Storia dell’Arte Lombarda – is carrying out a research on Silk Production in Lombardy from the 15th Century to year 2000, which is expected to end in 2015 after numerous exhibitions and cultural events.

In particular, the first phase of the project is centred on the Duchy of Milan and culminates with the exhibition entitled “Seta Oro Cremisi – Segreti e tecnologia alla corte dei Visconti e degli Sforza” (Silk Gold Crimson – Secrets and technology at the court of the Viscontis and Sforzas), which opened on 28th October 2009 and ended few days ago.

We are pleased to inform you that Professor Chiara Buss, Director of Applied Arts at ISAL and Curator of the exhibition, is coming to Como for a series of conferences centred on a particular theme.

Here is the agenda of the meetings which taking place in March:

11th March  at 6.00 pm: “Fabrics made of silk and gold in the Duchy: the complete process in an exchange from the Black Sea to London.”

18th March at 6.00 pm: “Craftsmen, entrepreneurs, bankers, princes and artists: their profile in silk fabrics.”

25th March at 6.00 pm: “Girelli da Letto: a mysterious love story.”

The three conferences will be held at Villa del Grumello, via Cernobbio 11 (Como).

THE CHEMISTRY LABORATORY OF THE EDUCATIONAL SILK MUSEUM IS READY TO BE REOPENED TO ALL VISITORS

The Chemistry Laboratory of the Educational Silk Museum is ready to be reopened to all visitors in April. The laboratory, which is an important part of the Museum educational offer, reveals and refreshes a number of precious exhibits making it become even more specialised and rich. Particularly, it is possible to admire devices for chemistry tests, an extractor hood used for chemical reactions, a vast collection of aniline dyes, a “star” steamer for samples, high-level instruments, technological devices and various materials.
